“I don’t know why I’m here! I spotted your van and was compelled to come.” a young man said as he poked his head through the entrance to my van. Deb & I had moved from mid-northern British Columbia and I had converted an old cube van into a mobile Christian bookstore to service the rural folks of Nova Scotia. Streetlight Christian Books was, this day, in Antigonish, home of St. Francis Xavier University. I was parked in a shopping mall parking lot on the out-skirts of the city limits.
It hadn’t been a busy day, and I was alone in the van when the young man entered. My immediate response was a very quick silent “Thank You, Lord! You’d better take this situation in hand.” I said to the man, “Well, I know why you’re here. Come on in, have a coffee with me and we’ll talk.”
Have you ever had those ‘God-moments’, when you know you’re not in control, but you’re so at peace and the words just seem to come, and you know you aren’t the one speaking them? This was one of those times. I honestly cannot remember the man’s story, or his name, but I do know that an hour later, he left the van knowing Jesus Christ as his Saviour and the angels were rejoicing at receiving one more into His Presence.
“….I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” John 4:35 NIV
