As I pulled up to the Tim’s Horton’s drive through window I noticed a fellow Harbourite behind me. I asked the server if I could also pay for whatever the person behind me was getting. After a little confusion, she agreed, I paid her for both purchases, she gave me my coffee and off I went.
As I drove away, I felt great. It surprised me that this simple act had created so much joy in my heart. It had cost me about $3.00 but the spiritual return and reward was far greater.
This made me reflect back on other times that I have done similar acts; buying a meal for someone, secretly serving or giving help to someone in need. These moments of small sacrifice have benefited my soul and created spiritual momentum for me. Jesus reaffirms this sense of blessing through giving when, after washing the disciples’ feet, He says in John 13:17, “Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.” (NIV)
