In the Fall of 2015, for 7 weeks we took time in our services to pray through the Lord’s Prayer. Here are those 7 prayers. May we continue to use the Lord’s Prayer as a model and as a way to enhance and further our own prayers.

PRAYING THE LORD’S PRAYER (Sunday, Nov 22)

Our Father in Heaven,

  • How wonderful it is to be called your Children! You are our Merciful Father!

Hallowed be your name,

  • You are perfect in all of your ways, radiant in the splendor of Holiness.

Your Kingdom come

  • We pray that the Mercy we’ve received through Christ – be received by those in our families, neighborhoods and our nation – all who desperately need you.

Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven,

  • Your plan is perfect and high above our own – we surrender to your will and trust you with our lives

Give us this day our daily bread,

  • You are forever faithful to provide for us. We trust you to give us what we need today

And forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors,

  • The debt that we owed was impossible to repay. The weight was unbearable. But you have cleared that debt and denied us the consequences that should have ruined us. We are forever grateful! We pray that you would help us to forgive as you have forgiven us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,

  • Search us and know our hearts, try us and test our anxious thoughts and see that there be no evil way in us. God, we trust you to bring to light the things that don’t belong in us and we trust you to provide the strength to overcome them

For Yours is the kingdom,

the power, and the glory,

forever and ever.

Amen.

PRAYING THE LORD’S PRAYER (Sunday, Nov 15)Praying the Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven

  • You are Creator and sustainer of the universe. Father and protector of us all.

Hallowed be thy name

  • We give you all the honour and glory. We bow before you as our Lord and King.

Thy kingdom come

  • Help us to show others your love so that your kingdom on earth can be glorifying to you. Help us to hear the promptings of the Holy Spirit when we are led to share that love.

Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven

  • Our desire is to walk daily with you so that we are able to know and understand the plans you have for our lives.

Give us this day our daily bread,

  • Allow us to rest in the knowledge that you as our Father are caring for us. Give us peace in knowing you are able to provide all that we need today.

And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors,

  • Forgive us, father for the spoken and unspoken sin in our lives. Thank you for giving us a Saviour who has made forgiveness possible. Teach us to forgive those who have wronged us, just as we are forgiven by you.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil

  • Give us wisdom in recognizing evil when it appears. Help us to stay close to you so that we walk in your ways. Protect us from everything that would separate us from you.

For thine is the kingdom

The power and the glory

For ever and ever

Amen

PRAYING THE LORD’S PRAYER (Sunday, Nov 8)

Our Father in Heaven,

  • Lord you inhabit the heavens. We look at the stars, the sun and the moon and your Glory, Your awesomeness and greatness are evident. Yet we are invited to call you Father – so intimate and personal.

Hallowed be your name,

  • May your name be praised and may we acknowledge you as Lord and Sovereign over all
    Your Kingdom come
  • May there be justice for the oppressed; freedom for the enslaved; hope for the depressed; comfort for the grieving; friendship for the lonely.

Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven,

  • We pray that we would surrender to your will and your ways. Give us eyes to see as you see
Give us this day our daily bread,
  • As you provide for the birds Lord, we trust you to provide our daily needs. Show us when we get greedy. Give us the desire to share freely with others.

And forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors,

  • Thank you that you forgive us so quickly, without grudges or making us feel ashamed. May we likewise extend such grace to those we must forgive.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,

  • Keep us humble and ready to run from tempting situations. Keep our mouths from gossip, our minds from arrogance or self-pity. Keep our souls from running to shoddy substitutes for You. We need your help. We depend entirely on You.

PRAYING THE LORD’S PRAYER (Sunday, Nov 1)

Our Father who art in heaven,

  • Thank you for being our loving father, our Abba who calls us your children.

Hallowed be your name,

  • Great is your name oh God, may we have a growing reverence for you and your holiness, for how divine you truly are.

Your kingdom come,

  • Come for us Lord Jesus come,

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven,

  • Have your way, here on earth oh God, that more people would come to know you and be in relationship with you.
Give us today our daily bread.
  • May we trust in you for all that we need, knowing that you feed the birds and cloth the flowers, and they do not fear. Please give us all that we need for today, for our spiritual and physical bodies.

Forgive us our trespasses,

  • Forgive us for our sins Lord, for the choices we make that don’t honour you, for the times we choose our own way or path, for the times we pursue the things of this world that are not of you.

As we also have forgiven those who trespass against us.

  • May we see the unending grace that you have for us, leading us to forgive those who have hurt or wronged us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one,

  • May we run from temptation in our lives, daily, putting on the spiritual armor that you supply us with. Thank you for your son and his sacrifice, that we may join you in heaven, rescuing us from an eternity apart from you.

For yours is the kingdom,
The power and
The glory,
Forever and ever,
Amen.

PRAYING THE LORD’S PRAYER (Sunday, Oct 25)

Our Father who art in heaven,

  • You love us more than we can imagine, you are so far above us in wisdom and knowledge, in strength and power and yet you know us intimately and deeply.

Hallowed be your name.

  • May we praise your greatness, your holiness and your awe inspiring justice

Your kingdom come,

  • May you use me/us to spread your love, your grace and your mercy to those who do not yet know you.

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

  • Help us to obey you in our everyday life, in our thoughts, in
the way we speak and relate to those we encounter on a daily basis.

Give us today our daily bread.

  • Lord we so desperately need you, whether we realize it or not. We are dependent on you for the very breath of life, for our everyday protection, for strength and grace to do your will.

Forgive us our trespasses

  • God we mess up all the time, sometimes deliberately and rebelliously and sometimes in a moment of weakness or out of ignorance…yet you forgive us and you don’t love us any less. Thank you.

As we also have forgiven those who trespass against us.

  • Give grace that we forgive those who hurt us and keep us from the bitterness of unforgiveness.

And lead us not into temptation,

  • Help us God to walk away from those things that drive a wedge between you and us, that hurt our relationship with you and with others, that hurt us no matter how appealing they appear.

But deliver us from the evil one.

  • Lord, you are the only one that can save our souls from eternal destruction; there is nothing we can do to save ourselves.

For yours is the kingdom,
The power and
The glory,
Forever and ever,
Amen.
