Cross Training

The cross has been the primary symbol of Christianity for many centuries.  It reminds us of the centrality of Jesus and his work on the cross to God’s salvation story.  During Lent we not only consider the cross Jesus died on, we also reflect on our sin, which put him there.

Our response to the cross should first be one of repentance (confessing our sin to God), then gratitude (thanking Jesus for his sacrifice) and finally change (transforming attitudes and behaviors in the power of the Holy Spirit).

Scripture:

‘For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it’s the power of God.’ –  1 Corinthians 1:18, Colossians 2:13-15, Galatians 2:20, Luke 9:23, Luke 18:9-14

Action Plan:

Put a cross somewhere where you will see it regularly and each time you come across it pray this simple prayer…

Prayer:

Lord, have mercy on me a sinner.  Thank you for your forgiveness.  Help me to be more like you. Amen
